Autumn means nature’s harvest is at its best! Forget supermarkets – head outside for foraging, roam the wild and get in touch with your inner hunter & gatherer for dinner!

NEW Welsh Mushroom Hunt, Cambrian Mountains
We all now autumn is the best time for mushrooms! This new fungi hunting tour is held entirely in the woods, followed by a short preserving demonstration and tasting session. Guests (both adults and children) hunt for all types of delicious mushrooms, then take home their finds. The Foodie Package includes a meal of wild mushroom soup, homemade bread, Welsh cheese and locally-sourced salads and guests get a field guide or imported mushroom knife.

Autumn means foraging for food – A Hedgerow Guru hunt with Good Day Out, Brecon Beacons
Walk on the wild side with local author Adele Nozedar, author of ‘The Hedgerow Handbook’. Explore the meadows, woodland and banks surrounding the river Usk, identifying and foraging for wild and garden plants which are traditionally used for food and medicines. There is no better time to explore the goods that nature brings at this time of harvest!

Cider-making with Ragmans Farm, Forest of Dean
The expert leading this workshop has been making apple juice and cider for over fifteen years. Guests will enjoy a short introduction to cider making, then set out to pick fruit, then to the pressing room and wash the fruit prior to pressing, then a tour of the 1000 apple and pear trees. Groups will run both the traditional cider press and the modern apple juice press in tandem, using two mills, two different presses, pumps and bottle fillers and pasteurisers.
3rd October – £70  (including 15 litres of apple juice to turn into cider)

Local expert Raoul Van Den Broucke has featured on TV’s The Wild Gourmet programme and is an expert on the local flora and where to find it. The crop depends on season and location and ranges from a wide variety of edible and useful mushrooms, wild garlic and sorrel, bitter cress, pennywort, wimberries, sea beat, marsh samphire, edible flowers, wild strawberries, etc.
£365 based on two people sharing including a guided forage with Raoul, three-course foragers’ lunch, dinner (head chef, Martin Adams will use your foraged finds) and one night’s accommodation
Half day foraging walks with Raoul start from £125 for up to four people and £25 per head for each additional forager.
